I found a very exciting app that made the above two series.

You can get it free from the App Store.

Matissa, the app, lets you open a photo and process it in around forty effects, each emulating a different artistic style.  It uses neural network technology, which is software running on servers in Cypress, to “machine learn” the visual characteristics of a given photo, the target, and to calculate probabilities of a pixel being a certain value, that would result in its brightness and color.  Fields of pixels get their probabilities calculated and influence the area, so the overall, finished result is an understandable distortion.

This is surprising, and often delightful.
